Trained at B.L.A. workshops with RADA and at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Raquel is one performer with both training and experience. Noted for her principle role in Hairspray, Raquel has been deemed by the Guardian as a triple threat and one of the youngest UK talents out there.
Since the impressionable age of three, Raquel has been performing on stage as a child vocalist. At nine, she started picking up additional roles and appeared in shows at the Cartoon Club, Albany Theatre, Lewisham Theatre, National Theatre, Hackney Empire, and The Blackheath Conservatoire. At twelve, she appeared as a singer on BBC’s prime time Saturday television show.
In 2008 during her performance of Dorothy in The Wiz though, Raquel got her big break. An industry scout spotted the performer during this Musical Theatre Assessment with YAP and helped her land the role of a lifetime. For two years Raquel played principle role, Lil’ Inez in the Westend musical, Hairspray, at the Shaftsbury Theatre.
You might have also heard her on BBC’s Comedy Radio Sketch with
Miss Jocelyn and Clive Swift, or seen her in Children in Need (BBC),
The Alan TItchmarsh Show (ITV) or Comic Relief (BBC).
Whether she’s travelling across Europe or touring in the UK, Raquel Jones is a musical force to be reckoned with and one performer who’s sure to catch your eye.
